What am I doing?

What am I doing?
Really. I conscientiously decided years ago not to learn how to shoot photos. My brother is a pro photographer johnheredia.com ; my wife can hang with best of them Set Out Running.
So why bother??
Well here I go -- I'll take the challenge, but there will be no editing of the shot, no cropping, and no use of fancy apps.
Equipment? my IPhone's camera.
Aperture? huh?
Lens? There's one in my eye, right?
That's it -- me and the IPhone and I will tell the tale of what goes on in this crazy ride of life -- at least my little part of it.

Day 29 -- Dawn of the Dead

The theme for the annual Halloween party was "70's Television shows."  Mr. Vaccaro arrived. He was "on TV"  -- 70's Black and White TV to be exact.

Day Twenty and Eight -- Flora I

We get this wildflower mix in the spring.  An unimpressive, quite bizarre carrot top looking plant sprouts during the summer heat.  Around late September, the plant makes a pod and soon these beautiful flowers are born.

Day 26 -- Do you have a permit for those?

It's way past firefly season.  That glowing light is actually the fine men and women in blue doing their job. They may have been giving a citation to the ghosts that you can just make out to the right.  Not sure.   Just glad they were doing whatever they were doing.

Day 24 -- The view from up here

So 24 days into this and as I review other 365 sites I discover I really am supposed to be concentrating on photos. Man!!!
So I decided to use the view from my office as a subject that can be memorialized as the seasons change; in different weather conditions .....  and in smog.  From my window you can see Buckhead in one direction and downtown Atlanta in the other.  This is Buckhead.

Day 23 -- A tribute to the grinning cat on a pumpkin

We had folks over to carve pumpkins this evening. The child selected a pattern of this grinning feline. I complied with her wishes and a carving I went. I had some shots of all the other pumpkins but decided to post this one for that day as a tribute to our fallen pumpkin.  See later in the week we would get high humidity, 80 degree weather in late October, and rain, rain rain.  Not good conditions for a squash that's been gutted and holes carved into it ---- mmmmmmm moldy.  So here's to you grinning cat on a pumpkin, pumpkin.

Day Twenty Two -- The Great Leaf Monster

The Monster was a riot at the Little 5 Points Parade the previous weekend.  He made a quick appearance today and I took a quick shot.  ALL HAIL THE GREAT LEAF MONSTER!!!
He adorns the shirt I received for running the Candler Park Festival's 5K earlier that morning.

Day 21 -- I take a break

I could pretend I took a photo today -- I didn't.  I hang my head in shame. It was a long week at the office. My brother turned one year older yesterday --- miss him being around. He moved away just recently.

Tomorrow brings a load of chances for photos as there's another festival to go to!!!

Day 19 -- I get arty

So for some reason Apple can't charge you twice or thrice if multiple members of your household download the same app under the same account.  What!?!?! Apple, I am so disappointed you haven't put an end to this exploitation of your mom and pop operation.
Anyway I downloaded Hipstamatic to the IPhone -- I know, I know,  I am not supposed to use apps, but for  kicks I tried it out -- it's like the family photos are in an old timey photo -- ARTY!!!!

Day 18 -- Whew!

Man this is getting hard.  Remember that SNL skit where they had George W Bush whining about his job -- that it was haaaaaard.  Well, I'm feeling like that.  Most of the time I forget to take a photo until the end of the day -- especially when the day is routine.  Well, here is today's.  Created by accidentally pressing the button that takes the photo when getting the camera ready to take a photo -- of what I was trying to take a photo of, I no longer remember.

Day 17 -- You Gotta Look Sharp!

Some days I have to go to Courthouses.  These are the suits standing in line to get through security.  Wow!! who would have thunk two men in a row with dark suits and tan shoes?

Day 16 -- Like a Candle in the Wind

On a trip running errands, as child rehearsed for her musical, I "snapped" this shot of a church's steeple's reflection on a shiny new office building.  I know -- mind boggling.

Day Quinze -- It's beginning to feel a lot like Halloween

The day began with Stovall getting to play in the living room of the Little 5 Points locals.  I am sure they were surprised to find a stage and a PA where their bedroom and dining room once was.
Then we stuck around to catch the Little 5 Points Halloween Parade.  Good stuff.
The child was even in it as part of the Horizon Theater "float."
YELLOW HATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (see Day 8)

Day Fourteen -- Elvis is in the building

The child got to bring home the class pet for the weekend - Elvis the dwarf bunny.  Yes he was a hunka hunka of burning love.  I think you can see how much the child loved having that bunny here.  The photo does not do the bunny justice -- could be a bunny, a stuffed animal or a muff.

Day 13 -- Tiny Town

The leaves turn, the Great Pumpkin is on T.V., the suburbs open their haunted houses and at our house we get Tiny Town.  The mayor cut the ribbon and the town was open for business.

BOO!!!

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Day 12 -- Swim like fishies

The child had a swim meet as part of P.E. today -- yeah I remember when we had to do that.  I can't tell you that she is in this photo and I can't tell you that she is not

Day 11 -- Bella

So got a break from the studio tonight and realized I needed to take a photo. Look over to the left and found a "willing" subject.  Bella the nearly 16 year old house cat.  She is very stuffed animal like and in recent times she has decided to quit being the invisible cat of repute and actually appears to socialize. To boot, the child and her have formed an inseparable bond.
Here kitty, kitty!!!

Day X -- Plee Play

So sometimes I dabble in music.  Okay more than dabble --  for 27 years. Wow!!!  The most recent adventure was recording a cover of Chrissie Hynde's "2000 Miles" for the The Holiday Twelve Christmas charity CD.  Proceeds go to Atlanta Humane Society - check it out!!
So yesterday and today (Columbus Day) I was in the studio with the boys and girl of Stovall.  I would live at Love's Park Studio a lot on the upcoming days.  But very very fine work was completed by all involved. (Pictured Ted Lee laying his drum track)

Day 8 -- Dragons, Alpacas and yellow hats

Seriously, is there a better way to say hello Autumn that a giant inflatable dragon? Razor sharp teeth and scales -- Kids, you can jump on it until it has to go back in the moat.  Don't ask where I was - father's pride was in action as Uncle Johnny and I went to see the child perform a practically impromptu "scene" from her upcoming musical.  While you are here Johnny - let's go see some Dragons, Alpacas and yellows hats.

Dia Siete -- How Do You Do It?

I know you are saying to yourself- Hannibal, How do you it? How do you take these wonderful photos of landscapes on an IPhone and without the use of any fancy apps or editing.  Well that's a little secret.
(Pictured: trees)

Day Sixx -- Decorated in early 21st Century Physician Holding Arena

What style! the textured carpet, the faux plant, the faux leather and the mismatched cloth chairs. All there to let you know "Wait here until we know you are insured."  The thrill of getting to this age is getting poked and prodded every couple of years so you don't leave this planet any sooner that necessary.  I am doing fine -- thank you very much.

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Day 5 - Autumn is here

Mmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmm.  The air is crisp, the leaves are turning and we throw squash on the steps. In summer, I like to place zucchini and spaghetti squash on the stoop.

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

Day 4 -- Always Fashionable

Despite having a serious cold, the child finds time to peruse the catalogs and select some fashionable winter wear.  Well, when you don't have rosemary IPA, blue cheese, or faux medieval knights to entertain you, you have to improvise.

Monday, October 4, 2010

Day Trois -- How Bleu is Blue

Really how blue?  So after recovering from Day One -- Back to responsible tasting at the monthly Brick Store Pub beer and cheese pairings.  Up close and personal -- the Archer Blue from the folks at Sweetgrass Dairies  -- not so appetizing?  Look at it -- see the textures; smell the flavors.  Paired with a nice Porter.

Day 2-- Really $ 35.00 a head???

The paper crown says it all .....................................

The kids do have a good time.  Makes it all worth it.

Day Numero Uno --

So I begin this misadventure with Hoptoberfest.  After everyone decided to party like twenty year olds at my buddy Ted Lee's 40th Birthday Party, I had decided to drink responsibly. You can't at a beer fest. By the end of the festival, Blake's sign of endearment would be exactly how I was feeling. (Pictured Blake and Kendra Rainey)
